How to take care of pets in hot summer

Summer, with its intense heat and high temperatures, not only affects human health but also poses many challenges for pet care. Protecting and caring for pets in the summer is not simply taking them for a cool bath every day, but also requires more care and attention from the owner. Below are some ways to care for pets in the hot summer to ensure they stay healthy and comfortable in the hot weather.

1. Ensure adequate water supply

During the summer, providing water for your pets is extremely important to keep them cool and prevent the risk of dehydration. Make sure your pets always have access to clean water, especially when they are outdoors. Providing adequate water not only helps them stay hydrated, but also helps them maintain a stable body temperature.

2. Create a vacation spot

To help your pet avoid high temperatures, provide them with a cool, comfortable place to rest. You can use cool beds or mats so they can lie down without getting too hot. They should also rest in cool places, such as under a tree or in an air-conditioned house.

3. Limit outdoor activities during peak sunlight hours.

Avoid taking your pet outside during peak sunlight hours, especially between 10am and 4pm. High temperatures can be harmful to pets, especially those with thick fur like Alaskan Malamutes or Siberian Huskies. If you must go outside, choose early morning or late evening when the temperatures are cooler.

4. Hair and skin care

Pets' fur and skin also need special care in the summer. Brush regularly to remove loose hair and allow the skin to breathe. At the same time, pay attention to bathing your pet with cool water to reduce body temperature and remove dirt.

5. Regular health check-ups

During the summer, pets are at risk of heat stress due to the effects of high temperatures. Check their health regularly, especially for signs such as fatigue, difficulty breathing, or dry mucous membranes of the nose and mouth. If you notice any unusual signs, take your pet to see a veterinarian immediately.

6. Avoid leaving pets in cars

During the summer, the temperature inside a car can rise rapidly, endangering the health and life of your pet. Avoid leaving your pet in a car without opening the windows or turning on the air conditioning, even for a short time.
